FUN FACTS 


  • Its name came from Shiloh Church, located near the Union camps, which was used as a hospital for wounded troops. 
  • When the confederate army attacked the Union Camp, General Johnston waved a tin cup, instead of a sword, and led his army with it since that was all he could find. 
  • csaflag.jpg This was the flag, known as the "Stars and Bars", for the Confederate army.
  • Shiloh was the 9th deadliest battle in the Civil War.
  • On the battlefield there was a small pond where soldiers would crawl to drink water. During the first night it turned red from all the blood and became known as the Bloody Pond.
  • Drummers that played during the battle were as young as 10 years old and often killed in battle. 
  • During the surprise Confederate attack after the Union troops fled, the Confederate troops stopped to eat the rest of their breakfast.
